BLACKPINK’s Jisoo “I Was Scolded as a Trainee, They Called Me a ‘Weird Kid’”

On January 30th, the YouTube channel “117” uploaded the new episode of “Dex’s Fridge Interview” featuring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo as a guest. Jisoo met Dex and the two talked about various things.
Jisoo reminisced about her childhood, “People always told me I seemed like I had lived five lifetimes. I rarely cried as a child, and I don’t really remember being nagged or scolded.”

When Dex asked about her popularity in school, Jisoo replied, “I transferred to a new middle school, and suddenly a lot of people started gathering around me. I was confused as to why. Then, when I went to high school, the same thing happened—people came up to me saying, ‘You’re pretty.’ That’s when I realized it.”
When asked if she drinks alcohol well, Jisoo replied, “I’m not good at drinking. Just a glass of beer. But I never really liked alcohol”.

Hearing that, Dex responded, “So you can take care of yourself naturally, too”. Jisoo added, “It is a relief because I really love eating and can gain and lose weight easily”.
Looking worried, Dex said, “Don’t say that. You’re so slim”. Jisoo added, “I should still lose weight compared to my original weight. About 3kg. So I always think ‘I don’t have fat to lose now, how should I lose it? I am so slim now. I am so perfect now, I have no fat to lose’.”
Dex then asked if Jisoo eats comfortably when off season and loses weight when she’s in season. Jisoo explained, “I don’t distinguish it per season. I just feel it. If I feel like I don’t have to eat, then I don’t. I do pilates almost every day when I am on a day off”. She added, “During tours and such, I just do cardio sometimes afterward. I can’t exercise my muscles on my own. I’m not sure if what I know is right. I listen to the expert only”, revealing her work-out style.

Next, Dex asked Jisoo, “Did you rarely deviate?”. Jisoo shared, “I didn’t. But there was something like this. For example, when we were trainees, we had deviation in terms of eating.”
She also shared an experience of rebellion during her trainee days. “I wasn’t really the rebellious type, but if I had to say, my ‘rebellion’ was related to food as a trainee. Back then, I even gained a lot of weight. I was constantly scolded to lose weight, but I kept saying, ‘I need to eat. I like myself when I’m chubby.’”
She continued, “One time, the boss told me to lose weight, but since I responded like that, he just walked away saying, ‘That kid is weird.’ I lost weight when I debuted. I thought I couldn’t lose weight when I was told to but I am losing weight on my own after I made a debut.”
She added, “I could have felt rebellious because I was kept told to lose weight. So when we were trainees, we decided to go eat lamb skewers. There is a lamb skewer restaurant we like that is still in Hongdae. There is a sound when you open the door. We used to live with a company employee who watched us so that we won’t go out. We lived together and she was sleeping with her door closed. We listened and went out quickly. We blocked the door bell with the finger then the sound would be small. So we closed the door and excitedly went to the restaurant.”
